Broderick sat himself down in the dim lit room at the bar of the Leaky Cauldron, a cold pint of amber liquid in front of him as he waited for his friend Thorfinn, he hadn't been avoiding him but it was a little difficult for him after her broke up with Charlotte the girl he was in love with so cruelly, After he could not put it off any longer he finally asked him out for a drink after work and planned on putting what really was not his business behind him. Raising his glass to his lips he took a sip of his drink then nodded and raised a hand at his mate as he entered.

Glancing around as he entered the pub, Thorfinn spotted Broderick & made his way over, feeling a little on-edge. Ashley's comment had made him a bit nervous & he wondered now if he was in trouble for something. However, the other man's relaxed nature calmed him immediately & he felt his nerves dissipate.
"Have you been waiting long?" he asked as he slid into his own seat, his tone apologetic. He nodded for some service, immediately ordering himself a pint & paying with a few coins that were speckled with dried blood - clearly a payment being made by his most recent looting.

Broderick shook his head and flapped a hand "not really no" he clapped his friend on the back roughly and asked with a cock of his eyebrow "how you been, busy?" she asked innocently trying not to bring up the elephant in the room.

Thorfinn shot him a slightly amused, knowing look. "Socially, no." he commented, dancing around the subject carefully. He didn't exactly have a girlfriend to coop up with in his flat, anymore. He spent most of his time with his birds - which made him feel about as 'cool' as it made him sound to other people.

"so Ashley mentioned you are selling your flat" Broderick cocked an eyebrow and stared him down obviously he wasn't going to dance around the subject especially not after having a few.

At that, Thorfinn cleared his throat & looked away. He was alright with talking about Charlotte. He knew Broderick's stance on it & was able to easily hold his ground about it. He really wasn't in the wrong on that account, but the talk of money made his skin crawl with the itch of embarrassment.
"Er. Yeah." he took a sip of his drink quickly & set it down a little roughly, "I did tell her that. Moved out yesterday." he had been quick to find an interested buyer - & probably got a little more cash than he deserved for the place, but it had vanished fairly quickly. At least most of it, the rest was in a stack in the corner of his bank vault, tucked between his physical possessions.

Broderick smirked slightly "need a place to stay?" he asked casually he knew Thorfinn would never ask and that it was a hard topic for him as it is for most people but he wanted to make the offer "you have one if you need it" he shrugged keeping the conversation casual and not making a huge deal about it, he looked away taking a sip of his drink.

He gave the other man a small nod, but didn't agree or disagree to anything quite yet - he'd feel less ashamed after a few drinks & probably end up crashing on his couch anyway, so it would work out in the end. This way, however, he now had the offer to stay for longer than the hangover lasted, if need be. The idea made a strange, rare happiness swell up in his chest as he took another, much more relaxed, sip from his drink. "Thanks man, we'll see." was his only, vague answer.

Broderick nodded once then changed the subject now that the awkwardness was out of the way letting out a huge sigh he began to drift off thinking about Charlotte and how shed probably be angry at him at first but he knew she'd get over it.

The thing that made it the most awkward for them was that all of the usual small-talk subjects were perfectly out of reach. Love-life, work, money, travel, there was nothing the two of them could discuss. It was a wonder they were as close as they were.
"Mate of mine just quit his job at the Ministry." Thorfinn said carefully, squirming in his seat to get a little more comfortable. Granted, the 'job', had only been a short-term cover for Yaxely, but it was still technically a job. He still technically was given money for it, not that the wealthier man needed more money. Thorfinn guiltily wished for a cover job some nights, hoping that while doing the work he wanted to do, he could also do work that he was paid to do.

Broderick raised his eyebrows curiously thinking to who had quit lately "whose that? Yaxely?" he asked knowing he was around their age and seemed like the type of guy that Thorfinn would get along with, Broderick on the other hand was not a fan.

He blinked in surprise. "Er. Yes?"
Tilting his head forward as he spoke, he lowered his voice curiously. "I guess I didn't realize that you two, uhm, knew one another. He wasn't there long, just sort of a temp." he abruptly felt that he was pulling away too many layers, & regretted even trying to make this a point of conversation.
"Y'know what? Forget it, I didn't really - I didn't mean much by it, just.. making conversation." he cleared his throat, his voice raising in pitch a little. "When did you see Ashley last?"

"I don't know him well, just know /of/ him really" Broderick shook his head "just office talk and he is around our age and seemed like your type" Broderick smirked cheekily then let the subject drop and shrugged "yesterday she and Charlotte had a study session at my house" he shifted his eyes and cleared his throat this conversation was really quite painful.

"My type?" he repeated, an amused grin starting to spread on his face, now. He felt like he'd been quite done with the subject but that was too funny to ignore.
"Ah." he glazed over the topic of Charlotte almost artfully, "I was just wondering. She made it seem like I was at risk of you grounding me or something." he smirked.

Broderick laughed and shook his head "well I considered taking away your easy bake cauldron but then I thought what would you use when I am at work for such long hours" he shook his head "nah mate we re fine" he clasped his friend on the back casually shrugging his shoulders.
