omg so this is a thierry & tiffany futurefic that literally had no title in my evernote other than '#HOW DO U BABBY' so that's how i'm keeping it for now mkay
Life after the war had not been particularly kind to Tiffany Lestrange. Her family was gone, any friends that she had once made in school were either dead, or knew better than to go near her, & she was left with nothing. Everything had been torn out from under her.
Well, perhaps not everything.
"Hey, beautiful." Thierry seemed to appear in front of her, dipping his head with that crooked little boyish half-smile to catch her eye, before sinking into the seat across from her. She'd been sitting outside of a new little corner-cafe that had opened in very central Diagon Alley, stirring a glass of water that sat on the little round table now between them. Thierry's arrival had caught the full-on attention of a few nearby students, who had previously been pretending not to notice Tiffany near them. No longer ashamed to be caught staring, they all seemed to take turns looking over, beaming & then turning back within themselves to giggle.
If it had been a year earlier, the sight would have made Tiff's blood boil, her eyes would have narrowed & her fingers would have curled into near-claws threateningly. The jealousy would have turned her into a monster.
Instead, she just boredly glanced over, then turned back to Thierry with a small, forced little half-smile in greeting. His own smile seemed to fade a little at her less-than-enthusiastic greeting, but he quickly spoke up again. "It's gorgeous out."
"Sort of humid." she contributed.
"Way too humid." He agreed, immediately looking serious & nodding. His response made the little hint of a smile return to her face for a brief moment. He was trying hard, she'd give him that. But it was so different from the way he'd try when they had been in school together. There was no obvious need to impress her here, no clear sign that he wanted to give her all of the right answers to get her corset unlaced & at the end of his bed by mid-afternoon. There was no need here to keep her happy for the sake of their relationship, his obedience had turned into some sort of a genuine need to make her happy for her own sake.
