Blood was important in more ways than just purity, to Tiffany Lestrange. She was no believer in unconditional love, but she did understand the importance of family. The idea of spreading a family tree in the right places & keeping it properly trimmed & healthy. The lack of 'unconditional love' that she allowed in her life was quite clear in her recent feelings toward the Malfoy family, & it had always been obvious when one would consider her relationship with her cousin, Ophelia.
Clutching the letter meant for her father, sealed with a patty of shiny, black wax, Tiffany looked both ways before heading across the cobblestone street of Diagon Alley, dipping as languidly as a shadow down the lane marked 'Knockturn', by the crooked, paint-chipped sign staked between the cracks in the walkway. She'd received a detention for being caught out after curfew & was now stuck in the castle for the remainder of the weekend, with no way of slipping out & managing to get home. Desperately needing to make contact with her father, & not trusting a school owl, she had no choice but to turn to someone who would have access to Lestrange manor - Ophelia.
As she stepped inside a dusty-looking cafe that faced the street, Tiffany threw back her hood & shook her hair off of her face, glancing around before spotting Ophelia & heading over to her table.

Sitting in a corner, Phe flicked through her the normal; a copy of Witch Weekly whilst sipping on her pumpkin spiced coffee. She was most likely the youngest person there and she looked somewhat odd out, the older witches, typical, the ones you'd see in fairytales; wicked witches of the west and all that. Warts on the neck, crooked noses, all of that. But not Ophelia, she sat there, nails painted a deep shade of red, her hair shiny and flowing over her shoulders. Each turn of the page seemed more graceful than the last, nobody seemed to question why she'd be in such a dive, most people knew who she was, they knew it came with the name and the family relations but that wasn't Phe's reason. She'd often sit in this cafe, this one in particular, it'd been her summer hangout with Luke before they'd broken up, it was somewhat comforting to the brunette, though she'd never admit it to anyone.
Glancing up as she felt a shadow over her Phe raised a simple eyebrow at Tiff before nodding at the chair opposite her, her hand reaching for her mug before bringing it up to her lips and taking a long gulp.

She was barely even sitting properly before she started to utter her threats. "It's sealed. Obviously there's nothing dangerous in it, but if I find out it's been opened or handed to the wrong person, I'll.." she trailed off, not even finishing her threat as some hunched over old man appeared to ask if she'd like anything to drink.
"Hot water." was all she could think to ask for, immediately turning back to Ophelia, the rest of her threat apparently forgotten - must have been a spur-of-the-moment idea. "Whatever. Here." she slid the little folded & sealed back over to the brunette opposite her, sinking back into her seat a little. She felt a hint of.. jealousy? Hm. Hadn't felt something like that spur her in ages. Ophelia looked entirely out of place in the hole-in-the-wall cafe, but Tiffany no longer did.
Once shiny, thick black hair was now dull, hanging loose & dry at her mid-back. Eyes that she used to use to draw the male of her choice into her web had grown tired, almost sunken, and a figure that she'd once boasted about was now gaunt, no hint of any feminine curve left to her body at all. She was simply an empty shell.

Phe didn't even bother to speak, she was used to it- the threats. She just nodded simply, not even bothering with a retort, if anything she'd learnt with her family it was to ignore whatever they had to say and simply agree until they stopped speaking. Finally, Ophelia closed the pages of the magazine and set it down on the table, her hand reached over to a bowl at the corner of the table for an extra sugar cube before dropping it in her mug. Using her wand, the brunette stirred her drink twice before returning her wand to where it was, tucked in the top of her skirt.
"What is it?" Ophelia asked simply, knowing she wouldn't get an answer, or at least a real answer but she decided to try it anyway, make conversation.

"A hippogriff." she retorted without skipping a beat, reaching up & taking her mug of water it arrived without so much as making eye-contact with the owner. Reaching onto the table behind her, she grabbed a lime from the fruit-bowl & used one dangerously sharp fingernail to slice the peel from it effortlessly. "It's classified. Sort of. Relates to Lucius, the dumbass." she added. It was no secret how she felt about the Malfoys, especially after Lucius' recent capture. She assumed he had to be nine kinds of idiotic to be taken so easily when she had managed to avoid the law since she was eleven. Not that it had taken much effort on his part, her only job was to lie, smile for family portraits with the Malfoys & repeat the same phrases for every Ministry worker & their dog. "I can't remember my parents. I haven't seen my mother since I was born. I have no idea where they are."
"What is that? It smells sweet as death." she crinkled her nose up, nodding at the mug in Ophelia's hands as she dropped the messily peeled lime into her hot water, taking a small, tentative sip.

Ophelia simply rolled her eyes, the back of her mind musing over why she even bothered try create conversation. "Right, a hippogriff" she responded sarcastically, her nails tapping the side of her mug in a perfect rhythm. "Ah-" She started for a moment before pausing as she decided what to say, did picking her words carefully really matter at this point? Tiff seemed like she couldn't care less about her uncle anymore. "I see." Phe added finally, deciding that she wasn't in the mood for a family tree debate.
"Pumpkin coffee." Phe answered, her head raising a little as the waiter brought over a plate with toasties on. Giving him a slight nod, Phe didn't bother with a 'thank you', he was probably a half blood at best anyway and as far as she was concerned, anything less than the purest of blood didn't deserve a thank you off of her. Reaching for a half of her toastie, she pushed the plate towards Tiff. "Looks like you could do with something to eat." Her voice didn't sound mean, or judgemental, but almost as though she had some kind of concern for her slightly older cousin.

She watched her cousin curiously, then glanced at the drink again. "Seems out of season." she replied - then again, pumpkin seemed to be the 'thing' with the marketers, nowadays. Every farmer for miles was growing them, in & out of season, for the various villages & towns. She sipped her own hot water again, gritting her teeth as it felt a little too warm on the way down, then relaxed as it seemed to heat her from the inside. Lately she'd felt like she was in a state of permanently cold. Always reaching for a jumper or a thicker cloak to cover herself. Even now, she hadn't removed her outer cloak when she'd entered the cafe. She'd likely end up falling asleep wrapped in it that night - if she managed to fall asleep.
"No, thank you." she replied - her response was uncharacteristically polite as she turned down the food, she was distracted by watching a few other patrons of the cafe leave. After staring for a few moments, she decided that she didn't recognize them after all, then turned back to her cousin. "That's not the sort of hungry that I am, these days." Now her tone was more honest, the gleam in her eyes all too telling.

"Rumor has it it's stereotypical for our kind" Phe answered, referring to the muggle books of witches and wizards sitting around with pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie, all the variations of things that included pumpkin. Placing her own toastie half down Phe reached for the letter that was now on her side of the table and slid it carefully into her bag that resided tucked carefully underneath the table.
"You sure?" She responded as she reached to pick up her own half from the corner of the plate again, her teeth sinking carefully into one corner. She raised an eyebrow at Tiffs next response, a sigh falling from the corner of the mouth once she was done chewing. "You know in order to continue feeding that hunger you're going to have to feed the natural hunger too, or you're simply going to place yourself in an early grave." Once again, Phe sounded more concerned than judgemental, after all, pure blood was on its way out, they had to be careful to preserve what they had left in order to continue with the creation of pureblooded families.

"Apparently." she even smirked, now - one of the first real signs of life from her since she'd arrived.
"I don't -" she started to protest, before sighing & reaching over & grabbing the untouched half & taking a bite from it. The bite itself was small, but animalistic in nature. It looked as if she was trying to remove an important artery - from the piece of bread. She winced a little, slowly chewing & swallowing, then immediately complained.
"What is that, pure salt?" she sighed softly & took another bite, knowing that above all of her irritation, Ophelia was right. She'd start losing her head - more than she already had - if she didn't eat something of substance.

Phe almost broke a slight smile, deep down she felt sorry for Tiff, she knew it was hard, she'd seen how distant Luke had gotten from her before he'd opened up, spoken, they'd reconciled and then broken up again, but at least they'd ended on good terms, simple enough, Phe still loved him, he just wanted to keep her safe - though of course, she'd explained she wasn't safe anyway, it came with the family tree but he'd given her real insight to the dangers of being one of them, the training, the killing, she'd gained more knowledge of it through him than she had anyone else and it was true, she felt sorry for her peers, they were teens and it wasn't fair, other teens lived oblivious, they got dressed up, attended balls, lived life without the threats and concerns that Tiff, Phe, the whole of the family did.
"You do." Phe replied simply, giving her a small smile over the top of her own toastie as Tiff finally backed down and took a bite.
"No, Tiffany." Ophelia spoke calmly, her eyebrow raising a little. "It's called cheese and onion." Phe wasn't going to rise to it but simply take it in her stride. "So, detention hm? You ought to be more careful. What were you doing this time?"

She nearly melted into the next bite - she'd needed this. Badly. It was so delicious it made her mouth water, the guilt of having to tighten her corset vanishing as she dissolved into the next piece of food. Sighing, she used one finger to wipe at the corner of her mouth softly, making sure no food remained, then set the remainder down carefully, sipping her drink.
"Out past curfew. The usual." She was never really given detention for anything else. She wasn't a top-of-the-class student by any means, but she didn't get herself into the typical trouble that most other students did. No talking back, skipping class, or anything of that sort. She was simply caught wandering where and when she shouldn't have been. Often.
"I think someone in Slytherin house is turning me in. They won't patrol for days at a time but as soon as I leave the dorm, they do a 'random search'." she frowned, clearly feeling a little paranoid, suspicious.

Phe carefully took another bite of her own half of toastie, her head tilting just a little as she chewed, almost proud of herself for getting Tiff to eat something. Using her free hand Phe reached for a menu and picked it up before sliding it across the table towards Tiff. "I'm not going to tell anyone if you don't" She spoke, somewhat softly, almost understandingly.
"Ah, well done." She said, shaking her head a little before taking a finishing bite of her food.
"I think it's probably more the fact that Umbridge is on everyones case lately, the slightest thing, they're not even random searches seeing as they're happening so often, probably has something to do with Potter-" Harry's name dropped from Phe's lips like a lead weight. "I mean, he's clearly up to something and cat lady is just-" sighing, Phe cut off, a rant about a teacher wasn't what either of them needed. Lowering her voice, Phe started to speak back on original topic "If your father isn't home I'm sure my mother will get it to him, she seems to always know where he is. I assure you he'll have it before the evening is out" Phe knew the deal with Cressa and Roddie, they always seemed to be stalking around one and other, silent whispers.

Tiff couldn't help but almost smile at the mention of Cressa. As much as Tiff had an unspoken one-sided love & pride for her mother, she never spoke of her father. He was the love of her life. She felt uncomfortably protective of him.
"Thank you." She said genuinely. She looked at her cousin dead on & it was clear that she meant it.

Shrugging her shoulders slightly, Phe pursed her lips before nodding. "What else is family for, hey?" She answered simply, glancing down at her mug of coffee before picking it up to take another gulp.
"Order something-" Phe spoke, somewhat softly as she nodded towards the menu she'd slid across the table to Tiff. "Trust me, it'll help."

Giving a little sigh, Tiff admitted defeat & took the menu gingerly, as if it were going to attack her. She wasn't on some sort of self-punishing hunger strike, & she did eat every once in a while, she simply found it difficult to work up an appetite these days.
"I don't really think I want anything." She admitted, but read through the menu anyway. Something had to pop out at her & sound appealing. "Apart from that," she nodded to Phe's plate, "any ideas?"
