Ashley had heard that Thorfinn was moving into Broderick's and wasn't sure how she felt about she knew Charlotte would definitely not be happy about it but she on the other hand found herself happier than she expected to be after a few days of letting him get settled she popped in for a visit after school and cautiously peeked her head around looking for Broderick who was working late and not home or Thorfinn much to her dismay she was secretly hoping for Thorfinn.

Knocking roughly on the front door, Thorfinn shifted from foot to foot, wondering if Broderick was still home. He had a physical key on the front counter & knew better than to try to get in any other way - the security system of an Unspeakable was not likely a good thing to mess with. Under one arm he clutched a large cage, having to balance it with both hands once he was done knocking. The six little birds inside of it tweeted loudly back & forth at one another, clearly uncomfortable at having to share, plus the added discomfort of jostling around during travel. He hated to do it to them, but he would need to group them up until he could move them all in. It was better than them all rotting to death in his Gringotts vault, alone in the dark.

Ashley squeaked and jolted up when she heard the door but walked over to it swinging it open, she widened her eyes and smiled when she spotted him "Hey!" without thinking about it she pulled him into a hug then pulled back blushing shyly "s-sorry" she muttered shyly.

"Hey?" he chuckled, wondering what exactly he'd done to warrant such a warm greeting. "I'd hug properly, but.." he shifted the cage a little to gesture to it & then carefully stepped by her so he could enter the house & set the cage down before looking at her properly.
"What are you doing here? I realized after I rang that Broderick probably went back to work, you might have saved me from sleeping on the porch until he got back." he joked, taking the key from the dish near the door & pocketing it carefully, to be sure he wouldn't forget it again.

"thats ok I um I just I'm happy to see you I guess" Ashley admitted in embarrassment then shyly cleared her throat looking at her feet bashfully "I come over all the time actually so I was just popping in for a visit" she added honestly then smiled and glanced at the cage "wow they are beautiful" she commented genuinely watching them in interest.

"Hm? Oh." he held the cage up a little, then bit his lip & set it down on the nearest flat surface, which happened to be a chair near the door, & opened the door just enough to slide one hand in. The birds fought each other for a moment, as if arguing within each other who would get to be put on display, finally one of the bunch bursting out from the group & settling on his finger carefully. He lifted it out & shut the cage, chewing his lip nervously as he chose his words carefully.
"His name's Loki. He's uhm.. he's Charlotte's." he looked away, unable to meet her eye. "I think she didn't want him anymore, but - but he's not really mine anymore. D'you think you could make sure she gets him?" he fumbled in his pockets, pulling out a miniature little cage, no larger than a necklace pendant, then let it swell up to regular size in his hand, carefully depositing the small, but incredibly loud bird back inside.

Ashley watched him with the birds and when he mentioned Charlotte she smiled softly and nodded in understanding "of course I will" setting the cage down on a side table for now she met her eyes with him and sunk into her shoulders "what are the other ones named?" she asked her eyes hopeful as she changed the subject for his sake.

"This is Laufey." he commented, stroking one of the bird's head through the cage bars carefully. It was clearly getting older than the other birds, based on the color of it's feathers & had obviously faced some sort of serious hardship due to the various areas where the feathers had moulted off, leaving dark, burned skin beneath exposed.
"He was one of my first."

Ashley leaned in closer to the cage and gazed at the bird a soft smile on her features as she gently brushed her finger over his head when it moved closer to the cage " pretty name" she peeked back up at Thorfinn a genuinely sweet expression on her face.

"I couldn't afford a male when I wanted to first start breeding & then I found him outside of a church on Christmas. Totally frostbitten half to death. Guess we sort of helped eachother out." he smirked fondly, clicking his tongue softly at the older bird that immediately perked up, shimmying it's little legs closer to him happily on the rod it was balanced on.
"This one's Yggdrasil. First female I owned." he added, smirking as a slightly smaller but equally old-looking bird hobbled closer on the rod, to be closer to her obvious mate. "They're inseperable." he added, clearly amused.

Ashley watched the 2 birds her eyes lighting up "awww that is so sweet" she commented genuinely and scooted in closer to Thorfinn so she could get closer to the birds her eyes not leaving them even when her side pressed up against the taller males her soft vanilla sent invading his airspace.

He inhaled sharply, surprised by the general warmth of everything about her, right down to scent. With Charlotte, it was always brightly clear to him - peaches. Fresh peaches, sharp & clean & almost citrusy, it matched her perfectly. With Ashley, she always seemed to smell like vanilla, & if not that, then she was coated in whatever scent came from something she'd just baked. When she hadn't recently put perfume on or showered, he was sure he could smell linen, aloe, the smells of fresh laundry & soft sheets. Exactly what he'd picture if he was only seeing her in a photograph.
"So. Want to be the greatest BFF ever?" he asked, somewhat sarcastically but certainly not meanly. |

Ashley cocked an eyebrow at his question and grinned brightly "sure!" she chirped out happily her eye bright and excited even if he was being sarcastic she was totally excited he called her his bff.

He smirked & gestured to the door.
"Get a cloak, we're going to Gringotts." he smirked, heading out the front door.
After an hour or so of back-and-forth between the bank & the Bode estate, Thorfinn & Ashley stood successfully on the back porch, as Thorfinn looked at the cages lined up on the ground along the fence, the birds chirping happily at being allowed out in the natural air again.
"It'll be better once I figure out how to get them into the trees again. But it'll work, for now." he turned to her & looked surprisingly genuine. "Thank you."

Ashley looked around at the numerous cages on the porch and smiled with perky shrug "it was no trouble" she beamed up at him with a coy little grin "you are just full of surprises aren't you?" she asked biting on her lower lip "I mean you have that whole tall dark and handsome thing going I didn't really have you pegged for a Cardinal Breeder" she smiled and shrugged "I like that you have things like that about you" she blushed at her little confession looking at her feet.
