It seemed like a bit of a battle of wills between the two of them and Phe couldn't help but feel a little victorious that Tiff had even picked up the menu.
"It's not a matter of not wanting anything, it's the matter of needing it." She answered calmly as she laid her head in her free hand, her other hand being used to run her finger around the top of her mug. "Toasties are the best - how can you even deny?" She said, sounding somewhat playful, this place really did chill her out, she had a lot of good memories there that it was just a good place for her to be. "They sell Cheeri Owls-" Phe said, almost laughing to herself as a memory popped into her head of them, her, Tiff, Soleus, Esma, and Draco, all eating breakfast together when they were much younger, back when cereals came with toys in them and it was a battle of just whose bowl it'd fall into first.

She snorted, shaking her head & trying not to look amused. "I'm not a child." It was meant as a complaint, a defense, but it came out in a depressingly true way. Her childhood was long gone & had no hope of returning. Even her young adulthood was stolen, now.
Finally shutting the menu, she leaned back in her seat. Not wanting to wait & lose the newfound will to eat, she stood up to order from the front, returning moments later with a plate of dry toast & a small handful of raspberries on the side. That was her weakness - raspberries. The only thing left of her former self. The only sign of life on her corpse-like figure was the scent of her raspberry perfume.

"I wasn't suggesting you were Tiff" Phe answered softly. "I don't think anyone in our family can be simply classed as a 'child' anymore. We know too much, we're exposed to too much, you especially-" shrugging, Phe pursed her lips, eyes settling on her mug of coffee again as she mused over the thought of it.
Glancing up as she returned, Ophelia gave her the slightest flash of a smile, "raspberries, hey?" Tilting her head sideways she picked up her mug once more, draining out the last of the coffee. "See, s'not so hard, you have to stay healthy. Keep up your strength."

She snorted & shook her head, popping one in her mouth & legitimately groaning in pleasure, immediately eating another one. They were little & hardly substantial, but so delicious. "I used to eat these all the time." She recalled, almost fondly, before frowning a little & taking a big gulp of her hot water.
"How long were you here before I arrived?" She changed the subject abruptly.

Phe smiled weakly as her fingers reached for the corner of the magazine, picking slightly at the flimsy paper. "I know." Phe answered, eyebrow raising as she raised her gaze to Tiff. "They alright? Some things have a bitter taste to them from here-"
Pausing, she wondered whether or not to tell the truth, spending time in run down cafe dives just because it reminds you of someone seemed somewhat pathetic to her. "Not long." She responded quietly, averting her eyes to glance around the cafe, picking up on just how dusty the place was.

"You're lying to me." It wasn't like Tiffany was some sort of genius or prodigy, but if she had one skill it was reading people's tells. "Why are you lying?" She narrowed her eyes in suspicion, not only wondering what the real answer was, but why she would be hiding it.

Phe was going to fight her side but she simply shook her head, her shoulders shrugging. "Maybe an hour, or two. I've just been studying and what not-" she answered, Phe was generally good at keeping her cool but something about herself and Luke just gave her away, the way she'd let the corner of her mouth fall into a sad smile when she thought about him. Her fingers tapped against the table, which was normal for Phe but this time it seemed to hold an almost uncharacteristically nervous presence. She didn't want to tell Tiff the real reason, how pathetic would she sound then? And she didn't expect the slightest amount of pity from her older cousin. Not that she wanted pitying, far from.

She continued to watch her in suspicion, then decided that whatever she was hiding wouldn't be heavily significant to her, or she'd have acted much differently. No, this was clearly a more personal matter - something Tiff decided to let drop for the time being.
"Fine. Don't lie to me again." Was all she said - it was a command, as if she were a parent to her younger cousin, but it seemed like a reasonable enough request. She hated the lack of control.

Phe half smiled, almost weakly as she let out a soft sigh, and although it'd answer Tiffs previous question, Phe grimaced as a little old witch walked over towards them, probably the cafe owner of some sort, she was small, old, frail, her hair a shade of white, though she looked like she'd probably lived a good life so far but Ophelia knew what was coming. "Still no young man? Oh it's such a shame, he was such a gentleman." Phe sunk into her seat a little, head turning to give the woman a dark glare. "No, he's not in the picture anymore." Ophelia responded simply, sounding much more off than she intended, but her tone worked, the small old woman backing up a little and whispering a soft "sorry to hear that" before sinking off behind the counter to see how much money had been collected during the morning. Sheepishly, Phe glanced across the table at Tiff before looking down at Witch Weekly, her gaze settling on the stories on the page.

"It's for the best." She replied, shaking her head. She didnt know if it was true & she didn't know why she said it, but it just happened. She knew it was just what people said in these situations.
As soon as the words fell from her lips, she thought of Thierry. God, he made her happy. Though he barely got a surface reaction from her, ever, she found herself thinking about the things he said, hours later when she was alone. Now, the ring on her hand acted like a forcefield to keep them away from each other.

Phe glanced up again, her head shaking. "No it's not." She answered so quickly it was almost inhuman. Settling back a little, Phe's hand moved to comb her fingers through her hair. "It's just-" Ophelia sighed, shaking her head. "Doesn't matter."
Glancing down at the magazine again, Ophelia couldn't help but look a little sad, was it for the best? Really? Because it didn't feel like it to her. It felt like part of her was missing, and she'd much rather that part had been a limb because it'd be much better than the way she currently felt.

"Ophelia, do NOT think that way." She couldn't read her thoughts, but she could tell she was having sort of internal, romantic crisis. Whatever was going on in her mind, it was dangerous.
"If he doesn't return, your mother will find someone suitable for you." What, like her own had done? She squirmed uncomfortably at the thought & then locked eyes with Ophelia. "It's dangerous to get caught up in this sort of thing."

Pausing, her gaze settled on Tiff again, her look somewhat disheartened and sad. "I'm somewhat sure my mother already has someone she deems suitable, but I disagree." Phe bit her lower lip, quite sure that her mother was on the road of suggesting Fox, of all people, Phe's best friend, not to mention a werewolf, like Phe could actually marry into that sort of blood. "It's not that simple Tiffany, you wouldn't understand."

"Right." She sighed, leaning back. "Look, I get it totally sucks, but I do get it. There are just more important things - even if it doesn't feel like it right now. I took your advice," she gestured to her plate, "now listen to mine."
Again, stern, but a reasonable request.

"I'd rather not discuss it" Answered Phe simply, she figured she'd never feel about anyone the way she did Luke although, she'd tell herself time after time that she was sixteen, still young, there were plenty of people out there, it just depended on whether or not they ticked all of her boxes in the same way that he did. "So-" Phe started, desperate to change conversation. "How's your other half?"
