Replacement → Tallulah Clearwater

[Lyssa Towler]

Lyssa stood in front of the half-empty desk that divided the Exams offices from the rest of the Ministry, wringing her hands together. The lesser-confidential areas of the Ministry had been swapping & trading various employees amongst the departments to fill in for missing/dead/resigned employees left, right, and center, lately. Lyssa had so far been on the front desk for two solid weeks, helped the cleaning faculty deal with an explosion in the elevator, & had hardly seen her real boss, Warner Godfrey, all week. She missed her own desk, for once.

"I'm the temp. For reception?" Lyssa said to the redhead currently manning the front desk, "They sent me down from Foreign Affairs to replace Ms. Darcy for the week." she explained carefully, her hands moving from wringing together, to instead playing with the tips of her platinum, white-blonde hair that currently sat pin-straight at her middle back.

When the redhead had arrived at work, she's throw a bit of a wobbler (although, managing to stay professional). None of the files she'd requested were on her desk and the mug for her morning coffee was empty. "Useless, unreliable, people-" she was muttering, shaking her head and not noticing Lyssa stood in front of the desk, she was far too busy searching through the desk drawer, looking for an application she'd given to Ms. Darcy in order to request the files she needed on Hogwarts, dating back to ten years prior. "If you need a job doing, do it yourse-" 

Tallulah's head snapped up as she Lyssa spoke, her gaze steadying on her as her head tilted to the side as she listened. "Ah!" She started, fingers drumming against the desk. "Let's hope you're more reliable for the duration of your time here." She added before standing from the seat. "Tallulah Clearwater, it's a pleasure." She spoke, holding her hand out to shake Lyssa's.

Lyssa took her hand quickly, wanting to appear confident, and able. 

"Lyssa Towler." she replied, giving the other girl a weak smile. She kept her breathing even, and, even though she didn't have a mirror to check, she was fairly certain her hair was behaving itself. She had the bad habit of letting it curl itself when she got nervous, but she'd been working exceptionally hard at keeping it under control.

"Here, let me help you." she insisted - if she had expertise in anything, it was reception & paperwork. She quickly sat down on the chair on the opposite side of the open drawer-cabinet, giving the other girl a hopeful sort of look as she awaited an explanation on what it was they were searching for. As she sat, she 'casually' finger-combed her hair, glancing at it quickly before dropping it back into place. Pin-straight. So far, so good.

Giving her a somewhat more welcoming smile Tallulah shook the other woman's hand firmly before dropping her hold and straightening out the jacket she wore over the blouse that was tucked into a just-below-the-knee pencil skirt. Paired with the highest pair of heels possible - Tallulah's way of making her tiny frame appear a good 6 inches taller. - Still smiling, she dampened her lower lip.

"Nice to meet you" She finished off the name exchanging before moving back towards the front of the desk, her fingers tapping impatiently.

"Hm." She sighed heavily. "A pile of papers, printed on official ministry paper. They have the word 'urgent request - Tallulah Clearwater' written on the top corner. I'd assume they're filed away for the sake of them not getting into the wrong hands until they're handed in. So I'm more looking for a key than papers, but seeing as Ms. Darcy likes to keep things hard work there's an enchantment on the filing cabinet that is pretty much impossible to get past without the blasted key that goes in it. So if you're like some kind of blackbird that finds shiny things, I'd appreciate you finding that key." She really didn't want to have to fill out another form, the first one had been a pain in the backside and she needed the forms asap, she didn't really have much time to waste.

"Blackbird, no." she paused, chewing her lip in thought for a moment, before standing upright & adjusting the pant-legs of her slacks. "But, there's a Professor Larkin down in MC, looking to register a few Nifflers for his Hogwarts class, I bet he'd be willing to help out if it meant a little less paperwork on his end." she looked a little hopeful, glad she had a small bit of knowledge that could hopefully help out in the situation.

"The blackbird comment was a joke." Tallulah answered with a sigh as she moved further across the desk, opening another drawer and searching through it and looking more agitated as time passed without her finding what she wanted. "Larkin?" Tallulah looked up suddenly, her head tilting to the side as she seemed to think about it before shaking her head softly. "No, these papers are ministry reports, besides, they date back to before he was teaching." Sighing again, her fingers drummed against the table. "Although, there is something else he may be able to help with."

"I meant the Nifflers, with the key.." she trailed off & looked curious at her new comment.

"Really? With what?"

"Oh- Nifflers?" She started, her head tilting, clearly what Lyssa has said previously hadn't really registered and she'd just picked up key words and assumed she'd suggested she ask Larkin for the files she needed - clearly something that wouldn't work. "That could work."

Shaking her head, the redhead sifted through another drawer, her fingers dancing over each file. "Examination things." She answered quite simply before giving the other woman a somewhat pointed look that said she already knew too much.

She brightened up a little, "I can send him a memo." her hand shot out to the desk she was to be stationed at, grabbing a small bit of memo paper from a box. 

"Things." Lyssa repeated, her tone amused but not mocking - she was fully aware that her rank for information clearance in the Ministry was not particularly high. She was told some top-secret things, but only within her own department. "Well, if you can tell me enough to get started, I'll be all the help you can handle." She lost control of her trans for a moment as she concentrated on delivering positivity and enthusiasm. She wasn't miserable, but work was still work & it took some effort & a hint of acting on her part to get through some days. Her dark brown eyes fluttered blue - so bright they almost looked like the eyes of a corpse - or at least they would have, had the rest of her not looked so lively.
